A few months ago an MRI detected a mass on Taegan’s spine. On September 6, 2012 she had a Laminectomy of L2 for tethered cord release at Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis.
There have been some unexpected complications from the operation. Taegan has lost the ability to sit, stand and walk independently. The surgeon has no explanation for why this occurred. Taegan was transferred to the rehab unit at Riley on Thursday, September 13.
It is uncertain how long her stay in rehab will be, but we’ll keep you posted.

UPDATE – 12/26/12
Taegan has been working very hard in all of her weekly therapies to regain her prior level of functioning (pre-surgery). She is doing wonderfully! Her physical therapist and physiatrist are both very pleased with her gains in range of motion to her lower extremities. She will be having another round of Botox injections in her legs on January 31, 2013. This will temporarily help reduce muscle spasticity.
